Biography

Luke Lewis is a composer, arranger, researcher, and occasional conductor. He was educated in a comprehensive school in West Wales before studying music at the University of Salford. Initially an electric guitarist, he transitioned to focus on composition, studying under Joe Duddell. He completed his master's and AHRC-funded doctorate at the University of Oxford, where he was supervised by Robert Saxton and Jonathan Cross. He also studied composition and orchestration with Hans Abrahamsen at the Royal Danish Academy of Music. Lewis's music has been performed and commissioned internationally by ensembles such as the London Sinfonietta and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. As an arranger and orchestrator in the pop world, he has collaborated with artists like Gaz Coombes and Katie Melua and has worked with the BBC Philharmonic and London Symphony Orchestras. His teaching interests include free composition and stylistic composition techniques, especially in pop and jazz styles from the 20th century. Upcoming works include compositions for various ensembles, many of which reflect his diverse musical influences and interests.
