Biography

Luke began research in 1999 investigating the performance of free stream tidal turbines. His area of research has grown significantly with large-scale demonstrator devices installed around the world in recent years. Luke has experience in turbine performance, resource analysis, and structural dynamics, while his recent activity focuses on the turbulent effects of arrays of farms and devices optimally arranged to address complex problems. His research group has published several high-impact papers on the subject in recent years. He has worked on projects investigating the performance of winglets on turbine blades and has conducted work on micro-renewables, notably on micro wind turbines. Recently, he conducted a project on behalf of Highways England to model the wind energy potential from turbines installed along the road network and estates.
