Joined King’s in September 2016 as a Senior Lecturer in Modern Poetry. He studied at the University of Cambridge (BA, PhD) and Birkbeck College (MA). His research focuses on 20th and 21st Century poetry, exploring the interrelationship between poetry, political commitment, and social history. He has completed monograph work on Barry MacSweeney and is currently examining broader concepts of poetry within the context of state institutions, such as prisons and policing. His interests also include archival bibliographic research, which has led him to co-edit the 'Prose English Intelligencer' and publish his poetry in both the UK and the USA through independent presses. His academic work critically engages with aspects of poetry including left-wing politics, psychoanalysis, feminism, queer theory, and textual history, particularly concerning marginal writers and their socio-political contexts. He welcomes PhD students to work on poetry within these frameworks.
Requirements are consistent across King's Business School and Social Science & Public Policy departments for standard Master's entries.
