Biography

Luna Yue Huang earned her B.S. in Materials Science Engineering from Tsinghua University, Beijing in 2000 and her Ph.D. in Materials Science Engineering with a focus on Nanotechnology from the University of Washington, Seattle in 2006. She has been working as a Professional Engineer and Project Manager since then, beginning her teaching career in engineering courses at the college level in 2014. Currently, she is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Washington, where she also serves as the coordinator for the department's industrial relationships and the director of the internship program. Her research interests lie in the application of Data Science and Materials Informatics, particularly in computational studies of materials' electronic structures. She teaches various courses including Data Science for Materials Informatics, Big Data in Materials Science, and Integrated Undergraduate Laboratories. Huang is deeply invested in undergraduate research and emphasizes the importance of capstone projects, providing students with opportunities to collaborate with engineers on real-world problems. In addition to her academic roles, she continues to research electronic structure theory and its application to quantum materials.
