Biography

Luna Yue Huang earned a B.S. in Materials Science Engineering from Tsinghua University, Beijing in 2000, and a Ph.D. in Materials Science Engineering with a focus on Nanotechnology from the University of Washington, Seattle in 2006. She began teaching engineering courses at the college level in 2014 and is currently an Associate Teaching Professor in the Materials Science & Engineering Department at the University of Washington. Additionally, she serves as the department's industrial relationship coordinator and is the director of the internship program. Dr. Huang's research focuses on applying Data Science in materials informatics and the computational study of materials' electronic structure. She teaches courses on Data Science in Materials Informatics, Big Data in Materials Science, Integrated Undergraduate Laboratory, and Design in Materials Engineering. In her academic role, she collaborates with faculty to develop data science course series and encourages undergraduate research, believing strongly in the hands-on learning experience for students. Dr. Huang continues her research into electronic structure theory and the application of quantum materials in her own time.
