Biography

Luna Hupperetz is a PhD candidate at the University of Amsterdam in the Department of Media Studies. Her research focuses on critical audiovisual heritage and explores themes such as activist documentary cinema, audiovisual reuse practices, and collaborative film archival methodologies. She is particularly interested in community-led audiovisual digitization and the ways in which residual audiovisual collections can enrich archival theory and practice. As a film curator, Luna has contributed to the research and re-release of the restored anti-colonial film "Oema foe Sranan" (1978) and co-directed the short film "Battle Restored" (2022), which centers on this restoration. In addition to her academic work, she serves as a program advisor for the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA).
