Luwei Yang is a physical oceanographer currently serving as a Research Fellow at the Australian National University. His research primarily focuses on understanding the impacts of internal tides on Southern Ocean circulation and ocean heat transport related to Antarctica. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Marine Sciences from the Ocean University of China in June 2015, followed by a PhD in Quantitative Marine Science from the University of Tasmania, which he completed in December 2019. His PhD research investigated the impacts of lee waves on Southern Ocean circulation using the eddy-resolving ocean model MOM6. After completing his PhD, he joined UCLA as a Postdoctoral Scholar, where he studied the interactions of eddy and near-inertial waves in the North Atlantic Subpolar Gyre using the Regional Ocean Modeling System (ROMS).
