Biography

Lydia Benitez, PharmD, is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy, specializing in Hematology/Oncology pharmacy. Raised in Puerto Rico, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 2010 and her Doctor of Pharmacy in 2014 from the University of Michigan. Dr. Benitez completed a PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency and a PGY-2 Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Residency at the same institution, where she was named Chief Resident during her first year. After her residency, she practiced as a malignant hematology and hematopoietic cell transplant pharmacy specialist at the University of Kentucky Healthcare, serving as an adjunct professor at the UKY College of Pharmacy before returning to the University of Michigan in 2018. She is a member of the Residency Advisory Committee and actively involved in Michigan's pharmacy residency programs. Her research interests include the appropriate use of new medications in leukemia and building a framework for oncology stewardship, as well as the treatment of infections in immunocompromised patients.
