Dr. Lydia Plath

Biography

Lydia Plath is a Professor of Nineteenth-Century History at the University of Warwick, serving as the Deputy Head of the Department and Director of Teaching and Learning. Her research specializes in interdisciplinary analyses of nineteenth-century American and British histories, with a focus on American studies and pedagogies. Plath's doctoral research examined the historical role of lynching during the era of slavery and the intersections of race and masculinity among white men in the American South. She is currently involved in various projects, including a historical inquiry into incidents of sexual violence in rural communities in England, as well as editing a collection of essays on teaching American Studies in the UK. Additionally, her recent works emphasize decolonization in the history of American studies and include notable publications in various academic journals. Plath is deeply committed to teaching, having received accolades such as the inaugural HOTCUS Inclusive Curricula Prize for her module 'America Black White?'. She has held multiple administrative roles within her department and persisted in promoting inclusivity in education.
