Biography

Lyle Fearnley is an Associate Professor of Anthropology at the Singapore University of Technology and Design. He has a Joint Ph.D. in Medical Anthropology from the University of California, Berkeley. His book, 'Virulent Zones: Animal Disease and Global Health in China’s Pandemic Epicenter', published by Duke University Press in 2020, received an Honorable Mention for the 2021 Francis L.K. His ongoing research explores critical topics such as the politics of food safety and the anthropological history of medical face masks amid the changes in waste management infrastructure in Singapore. Lyle's publications include significant contributions to journals focusing on the intersection of health, agriculture, and consumer perceptions in contemporary China.
