Dr. Lyle Goldstein

Biography

Lyle J. Goldstein is a Senior Fellow at the Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs at Brown University. He leads the China Initiative and has an extensive background in U.S. defense policy and foreign relations. Previously, Goldstein served for two decades at the U.S. Naval War College, where he was promoted to Full Professor and founded the China Maritime Studies Institute. His research primarily focuses on Sino-Russian military strategies and the dynamics of great power competition in Asia. Goldstein frequently publishes his insight on various platforms regarding the implications of China's and Russia's military developments. He holds a PhD from Princeton University, a Master's degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, and a Bachelor's degree from Harvard University. Additionally, he is fluent in Chinese and Russian and has conducted studies on Korean matters. He regularly shares his expertise through social media on strategic issues related to these countries.
