Dr. Lyndsey Jenkins

Biography

Lyndsey Jenkins is an Associate Professor and Tutorial Fellow in History at Mansfield College, University of Oxford. Her research primarily focuses on women's activism within the Labour Party, examining the relationship between gender, class, and historical political movements in Britain during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Jenkins has engaged with significant projects, including a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship at Queen Mary University of London, and has actively contributed to various scholarly communities, receiving support from organizations like the Royal Historical Society and the Arts and Humanities Research Council. Her notable works contribute to challenging traditional narratives of women's activism, particularly the understanding of women's political roles from 1945 to 1979. Currently, she is developing a book that highlights the life and work of pioneering MP Joyce Butler, further bridging academic inquiry into gender politics and historical activism. Jenkins has also edited a forthcoming special issue of Women's History Review and is involved in projects that explore working-class women's roles in the suffrage movement.
