Dr. Lynn Katz

Biography

Lynn Fainsilber Katz is a Research Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Washington. Her primary research interests focus on examining familial factors related to the risk and resilience of children's socioemotional development. She is particularly interested in how children's ability to regulate emotions is influenced by adverse environments and life events, with an emphasis on parenting as a critical buffer against negative developmental outcomes. Katz employs a developmental psychopathology approach in her studies, which include children who function normally as well as those exhibiting behavioral disorders. Her recent research encompasses areas such as the development of combined emotion coaching, parent management training interventions for families of children with Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), and understanding child and family adjustment in cases of pediatric cancer. Katz's work often involves collecting observational, self-report, and psychophysiological data to better understand the dynamics within families and the impact of parenting practices on children's emotional health and interpersonal relationships.
