Dr. Lynn Kozak

Biography

Lynn Kozak works on archaic classical ancient Greek literature, receptions, translations, and comparisons of contemporary texts. Their monograph, Experiencing Hektor: Character in the Iliad, released in 2016 by Bloomsbury Academic, compares the Iliad's serial poetics with contemporary North American narrative television and continues to pursue work in television media studies. Recent publications since 2018 include a co-edited volume on Classics and Modernist Translation and articles focusing on H.D.'s translations of Greek tragic choruses, Homeric fandom in Greek tragedy, and the subversion of procedural expectations by supernatural protagonists in shows like FOX's Exorcist and NBC's Hannibal. Kozak's forthcoming work will explore Homeric translation and representation of American police violence in supernatural procedurals like Lucifer. They are the organizer of the annual McGill Classics Play and a member of several organizations, including the Quebec Drama Federation and the Freestanding Room Artists' Collective. Kozak also co-founded Oimoi Productions, providing students mentorship and opportunities to work with Classical texts in performance. In recent creative projects, they have translated and performed significant works such as Sophocles' Oedipus Tyrannus and Aristophanes' Birds, and were involved in a FRQSC-funded project that presented the Iliad as a weekly serial.
