Biography

Lynn Tucker is an Associate Professor in the Teaching Stream and serves as the Associate Dean of Experiential & Global Learning at the University of Toronto Scarborough. In this role, she is responsible for prioritizing the expansion of experiential learning opportunities, enhancing student mobility, and fostering local and global partnerships that integrate curriculum oversight. Lynn has been a conductor for the UTSC Concert Band since 2004 and teaches various additional courses in community music, musicianship, and small ensembles. Her research interests center around learner-centered pedagogy, instrumental pedagogy, facilitation, community music, and avocational music-making. Engaging students in lifelong music-making, regardless of their career paths, is at the forefront of her work, which has been recognized by the Canadian Music Educators’ Association with the 2015 Excellence in Leadership Award. In 2022, Lynn co-founded SoundLife Scarborough, a vibrant research center focusing on music community engagement. The project's priorities include fostering healthy communities through participatory music-making and supporting community partnerships grounded in the principle of reciprocity. Lynn currently serves as Co-Director along with her colleague, Laura Risk.
