Biography

Lynne Pettinger researches work and markets, with a particular interest in environment, technology, ethics, aesthetics, and emotion. She joined the University of Warwick in January 2014 after serving as a senior lecturer in sociology at the University of Essex and holding a post-doctoral fellowship at City University. Her research focuses on the intersections of work and markets, utilizing insights from economic sociology to understand forms of work. Pettinger explores the market cultures that are generated, along with the ethical, aesthetic, and emotional dimensions of work within global consumer capitalism. She has authored 'Work, Consumption and Capitalism' (Palgrave Macmillan, 2015) and published 'What's Wrong with Work' (Policy Press) in 2019, which addresses how work is evolving in light of environmental, technological, and economic crises. Her current research projects include examining 'green collar' workers, the impacts of exhaustion in the workplace, and the influence of regulatory frameworks on care work in the NHS.
