Biography

Lyudmila Sakhanenko joined Michigan State University (MSU) in 2002 as an Assistant Professor and has since advanced to the rank of Professor in the Department of Statistics and Probability. She earned her PhD in Statistics from the University of New Mexico and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Mechanics from Novosibirsk State University. Her expertise lies in nonparametric statistics, high-dimensional probability, and empirical processes, with a particular focus on applying methodological work to neuroscience. Currently, she investigates uncertainty assessment in axonal fiber tractography using diffusion tensor MRI data. Sponsored research by the National Science Foundation aims to enhance existing brain imaging techniques to assist in the early diagnosis of brain disorders and diseases. Additionally, she serves on editorial boards for statistics journals and has held the role of associate editor for Statistics & Probability Letters. Furthermore, she served as Interim Chairperson of the Department of Statistics and Probability from September 2021 until 2024.
