Biography

Professor Narayanan's current research focuses on corporate governance. In particular, his research with Nejat Seyhun was instrumental in exposing the practice of executive option backdating. He has worked on corporate financial topics related to corporate scope, managerial behavior, and management compensation. His studies on corporate scope write about the motives behind divestitures and conglomeration that result in inefficient capital allocation, as well as patterns of corporate diversification across industries over time. Furthermore, his work on managerial compensation investigates how different compensation schemes can distort managerial decision horizons, which can lead to issues such as managerial myopia.
