M.K. MacLean is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomechanical Engineering at the University of Twente. His research vision is to improve the walking ability of individuals with mobility difficulties through the development of wearable robots, and to advance the understanding of normal and pathological human movement. His primary research focus is on utilizing neuromechanical insights to create wearable robotic devices designed to enhance gait in people affected by motor control issues such as Parkinson's disease. Additionally, he is interested in understanding and improving the interaction and learning processes associated with these wearable robotics. He seeks to develop continuous monitoring techniques for real-world evaluation of pathological gait while studying the learning effects of using these devices. M.K. MacLean began his academic career with a Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Glasgow, followed by a Master's thesis research stint at Niigata University in Japan. He pursued his PhD at the University of Michigan and received his degree in 2020, focused on biomechanics and walking perturbations, after which he held several postdoctoral positions before joining the University of Twente as an Assistant Professor in June 2022.
