Biography

Dr. M Tracie Shea received her Ph.D. in psychology from the Catholic University in 1981. She has held significant positions, including chief of the Personality Disorders Program at the National Institute of Mental Health and associate coordinator of the NIMH Treatment for Depression Collaborative Research Program. Currently, she is a professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at Brown University. She has also worked as a staff psychologist and director of the PTSD Research Program at the Providence Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Dr. Shea is renowned for her research in personality disorders and PTSD, contributing to over 200 peer-reviewed publications. Her areas of expertise include longitudinal treatment studies focusing on depression and trauma-related symptoms in veterans. Her work has garnered funding from prominent institutions such as the National Institute of Mental Health and the Department of Veterans Affairs. Dr. Shea has served on editorial boards and is an associate editor for the Journal of Personality Disorders. Her involvement extends to leadership roles in professional societies, including as president of the North American Society for Psychotherapy Research and active participation in the International Society for the Study of Personality Disorders.
