Biography

Maarten Bolhuis is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Criminology at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He obtained his PhD at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in 2018. His research primarily focuses on empirical normative studies within criminology. He has been involved in various research projects including the implications of citizenship revocation for the reintegration of terrorism convicts and the application of international laws regarding universal jurisdiction and extradition for international crimes. He is also coordinating the MSc program on International Crimes, Conflict & Criminology. Bolhuis has co-supervised multiple PhD students, and has been actively engaged in the academic community, holding memberships and participating in conferences and workshops related to his field. Additionally, he is a member of the Amsterdam Young Academy and has collaborated on projects addressing the global justice system and the rights of journalists in conflict zones.
