Dr. Maarten Ijzerman

Biography

Professor Maarten IJzerman is an internationally recognized leader in cancer health services research and biomedical innovation. He serves as the Dean of the Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management and holds a professorship in Cancer Health Services Research. His research program focuses on advancing genomics-enabled precision oncology and developing data-driven methods to optimize cancer care, with the aim of improving patient outcomes and ensuring healthcare sustainability. Maarten is affiliated with the Erasmus Medical Centre and is a member of the Convergence Management Board at TU Delft, ErasmusMC, and Erasmus University. He holds an honorary professorship at the University of Melbourne and the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. Maarten has held various senior academic leadership roles including at the School of Engineering in Cleveland, Ohio, and has been involved with the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research in Philadelphia. His global research leadership includes being a Principal Co-Investigator for numerous projects funded by the EU and other international organizations. Notably, he has contributed to high-level research evaluation panels for the European Commission and other countries. Maarten has been recognized as one of the top 2% cited scientists worldwide and serves as a member of the Lancet Commission on Colorectal Cancer. He has received a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Twente and an MSc in Biomedical Sciences from Radboud University Nijmegen, among other accolades.
