Maarten Prak is a Professor of Social Economic History at Utrecht University. His research focuses on the Middle Ages and Early Modern history, particularly concerning the lives of inhabitants in European, especially Dutch, towns. Prak has also been a visiting scholar at several prestigious universities, including Exeter, Cambridge, the London School of Economics, École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris, and Westfälische-Wilhems-Universität Münster. His inaugural lecture took place on November 24, 1993.
