Biography

Maartje DE VISSER is a Professor of Law at the Yong Pung How School of Law and College of Integrative Studies, Singapore Management University. Her research encompasses comparative constitutional law with a particular emphasis on constitutional engagement, the roles of courts and non-judicial actors, and the impact of constitutional design in small states. She has a strong interest in comparative methodology and how language influences constitutional questions. Maartje has published extensively, with her work featured in prestigious peer-reviewed journals including the International Journal of Constitutional Law, Global Constitutionalism, the American Journal of Comparative Law, and the Asian Journal of Law and Society. She has co-edited seven books and contributed chapters to over thirty edited volumes. As a recognized scholar, Maartje has been awarded five Lee Kong Chian Fellowships for research excellence and serves on the editorial board of the Hart Studies in Constitutional Theory Series and the European Yearbook of Constitutional Law. She is also the founding co-chair of the Singapore Chapter of the International Society of Public Law (ICON-S). Maartje earned her PhD (cum laude) from Tilburg University in 2009, an M.Jur. (with distinction) from Oxford University in 2004, and an LL.M. (cum laude) from Maastricht University in 2003.
