Dr. Maciej Tomaszewski

Biography

Professor Maciej Tomaszewski is a clinician-scientist with a focus on cardiovascular renal disease, specifically hypertension. After completing his MD, he received a junior clinical research fellowship from the International Society of Hypertension at the University of Glasgow and later earned various career development awards including those from the Wellcome Trust and USA National Institutes of Health. In 2006, he became the recipient of a New Blood Lectureship at the University of Leicester, where he served as a senior clinical lecturer from 2009 to 2015 in the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences. In 2015, he was appointed Chair of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Manchester and holds an honorary position as a consultant physician at the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. He co-leads the Integrative Cardiovascular Medicine Theme at the NIHR Manchester Biomedical Research Centre and serves as the Deputy Director of the British Heart Foundation Manchester Centre of Research Excellence. His influential role in the field extends to membership in several professional bodies including the Scientific Council of the International Society of Hypertension. He has published works in prominent journals and has a strong focus on basic research related to genetic mechanisms affecting cardiovascular renal diseases.
