Biography

Madalena Tarsounas obtained her PhD from York University, Toronto, Canada in 1999. She undertook postdoctoral training at Clare Hall Laboratories, Cancer Research UK London Research Institute between 1999 and 2005, supported by postdoctoral fellowships from the European Molecular Biology Organization and the Breast Cancer Campaign. Dr. Tarsounas joined the MRC Oxford Institute for Radiation Oncology in December 2005 and was promoted to the position of Cancer Research UK Senior Group Leader in December 2011. In 2015, she became a Professor of Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of Oxford. Dr. Tarsounas was elected as an EMBO Young Investigator in 2010 and initiated the EMBO Conference Series on 'DNA Damage Responses in Cell Physiology and Disease,' which has become a biennial international event. In 2017, she was awarded the prestigious Mayent-Rothschild Prize, enabling her sabbatical stay at the Institute Curie in Paris. Her laboratory is funded by various organizations including Cancer Research UK, EMBO, MRC, the Breast Cancer Royal Society, Pfizer, AstraZeneca, and the EU Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Awards.
