Dr. Madan Kumar

Biography

Madan Kumar is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Chicago, where he serves as the Director of the pediatric antimicrobial stewardship service. His work focuses on improving drug selection and slowing the emergence of antimicrobial resistance while enhancing patient outcomes in the pediatric setting, particularly at UChicago Medicine's Comer Children's Hospital. Dr. Kumar's academic interests are centered on managing acute and chronic infections in immunocompromised hosts and addressing opportunistic fungal infections. He is also dedicated to medical education and participates as an Associate Fellowship Director for the Pediatric Infectious Diseases training program. He completed his medical education at Touro College of Medicine in New York City, followed by pediatrics residency at Pennsylvania State University and a fellowship in pediatric infectious diseases at Children’s National Medical Center. His research contributions include exploring the diagnostic accuracy of congenital syphilis and methodologies for antibiotic stewardship in pediatric populations.
