Biography

Madeleine Fagan is a Reader and the Director of Research Degrees at the Department of Politics and International Studies at the University of Warwick. Her research explores political mobilization in the context of the Anthropocene ecological crisis, examining security framings related to the environment and ecology. From 2020 to 2022, she held the Leverhulme Research Fellowship for her project 'Contending Cultures Anthropocene: Prospects Political Mobilization'. Her work investigates the implications of political mobilization across various representations associated with the Anthropocene, including those from academic disciplines, popular culture, media reporting, and scientific production. Initial outputs from her research have been published in respected journals such as International Political Sociology, Political Geography, European Journal of International Relations, and British Journal of Politics and International Relations. Fagan's PhD thesis, funded by the Economic and Social Research Council, analyzed critical and normative theories of political action. Her monograph, 'Ethics Politics Poststructuralism: Levinas, Derrida, Nancy', published with Edinburgh University Press, reflects her academic interests. She holds degrees from King's College, London, the London School of Economics, and the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, where she obtained her PhD. Before joining Warwick, she worked as an Assistant Professor in PAIS and held fellowships at the Institute of Advanced Study, University of Warwick, and the Department of Politics at the University of Exeter.
