Biography

Madeline Gleeson is a Senior Lecturer at the University of New South Wales, where she specializes in international human rights and refugee law. She directs Offshore Processing Regional Protection projects at the Andrew & Renata Kaldor Centre for International Refugee Law. Madeline has an extensive background advocating for forcibly displaced individuals globally, having conducted research on asylum seekers, statelessness, human trafficking, and labor migration. Her previous work includes research with the Jesuit Refugee Service in Cambodia, and roles with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Catholic Migration Commission in Geneva, Switzerland. She holds a Master of International Law from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva and both a Bachelor of Laws (with Class Honours) and a Bachelor of International Studies from UNSW. Additionally, she is recognized as an admitted practitioner in the High Court of Australia and the Supreme Court of New South Wales.
