Dr. Madeline Maxwell

Biography

Madeline Maxwell is a Professor Emerita in the Department of Communication Studies at the University of Texas at Austin. She has an extensive background in ethnography and communication, particularly focusing on the study of interaction, language, and culture. Dr. Maxwell's current research projects explore the adaptations of communication technology in relation to conflict mediation. She established the University Conflict Resolution Center, which trains students to provide conflict intervention services and studies communication in the context of conflict resolution. Additionally, Dr. Maxwell is a member of the Steering Committee for the Graduate Portfolio in Dispute Resolution, an interdisciplinary certification program. She teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses on the role of language in communication and conflict mediation, as well as courses in ethnographic communication and minority language communities. With a prolific academic output, Dr. Maxwell has edited several books and published over seventy articles, reports, and book chapters in renowned journals such as Language & Society, Text, Deaf Studies and Education, and Discourse Processes. Her contributions to the field are significant and provide valuable insights into the complexities of communication and conflict.
