Biography

Madeline Nieves-Cintron is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at UC Davis Health, specializing in Molecular, Cellular, and Integrative Physiology. Her research focuses on elucidating the mechanisms regulating vascular function in health and disease, particularly the role of vascular smooth muscle ion channels in controlling intracellular calcium and smooth muscle contractility. Her work also examines responses to health-relevant conditions, such as diabetes, hypertension, and environmental pollutants. Dr. Nieves-Cintron has received numerous awards for her contributions to science, including the Center for the Advancement of Multicultural Perspectives in Science (CAMPOS) Scholar Award in 2019, and multiple travel awards from the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS). She earned her B.S. and Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Puerto Rico, San Juan, and completed a fellowship in Physiology & Biophysics at the University of Washington. Dr. Nieves-Cintron is committed to advancing the understanding of vascular physiology and supporting diversity in the scientific community.
