Biography

Prior to joining the iSchool at the University of Illinois, Madelyn Rose Sanfilippo studied environmental studies, international studies, political science, and Spanish at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where she earned her Bachelor's degree. She holds a Master’s in Information Science and a PhD from Indiana University, Bloomington's School of Informatics and Computing. Following her doctoral studies, she completed postdoctoral fellowships at the Information Law Institute at New York University’s School of Law and the Center for Information Technology Policy at Princeton University. Her research and teaching interests focus on the governance of misinformation and the sociology of information, particularly within smart city contexts. Sanfilippo has served as a Faculty Affiliate in Informatics at the University of Illinois and has participated in various scholarly activities, including editing and contributing to books and presentations at academic conferences. Her research is closely tied to the study of sociotechnical systems and their impact on communities, as well as the ethical implications of artificial intelligence in contemporary society.
