Professor Dr. Madhav Badami

Biography

Professor Badami holds a joint appointment in the School of Urban Planning and the Bieler School of Environment at McGill University. He has a Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia and a Master's degree from the University of Calgary, specializing in environmental science. His academic focus includes environmental policy planning, urban infrastructure services, and urban transport, particularly examining alternative transport fuels and their implications for development. Badami's geographical research interests span the Indian sub-continent, Asia, and North America, where he investigates the complexities involving various socio-economic, political, and technological factors that influence urban mobility and sustainability policy. Having spent nine years in the diesel engine development sector of the Indian truck and bus industry, he brings practical insights to his research and teaching. His work addresses equity impacts and institutional mechanisms for effective policy-making and implementation in the context of urban transport and environmental sustainability.
