Biography

Madhav Rajan joined the Chicago Booth faculty on July 1, 2017, as the Dean George Pratt Shultz Professor of Accounting, beginning his term as Dean in July 2022. As Dean, Rajan launched new master’s programs and reshaped the school’s footprint in Asia and EMEA, leading to increased alumni engagement and significant support for faculty research and scholarships. He enhanced the school’s ties with the University of Chicago through joint degrees and initiated the Business Economics track, the largest major in the College. In June 2025, Rajan took on the expanded role of Chief Global Strategist at the University of Chicago, responsible for shaping and implementing strategies that reflect the university’s commitments to rigorous education and research on a global scale. Prior to joining Booth, he spent 16 years on the faculty of Stanford University Graduate School of Business, where he was the Robert Jaedicke Professor of Accounting and served as Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs from 2010 to 2016. His academic contributions include awards such as the Robert T. Davis Award for Lifetime Achievement in Service and notable contributions to management accounting literature. Rajan has published widely and is recognized for his expertise in economics-based analysis of management accounting issues.
