Biography

Madhusudhan Srinivasan is a researcher in Biochemistry with a focus on understanding the molecular mechanisms of cohesion establishment and eukaryotic chromosome segregation. His research in the DNA Topology Lab is centered around the precise division of duplicated chromosomes known as sister chromatids during cell division. The process relies on a ring-shaped protein complex called cohesin, which mediates the tight association between sister chromatids. Understanding this cohesion is critical, as any perturbation in its function can lead to human cancers and developmental disorders. The long-term goal of his research is to define the fundamental processes underpinning eukaryotic chromosome segregation, utilizing a multidisciplinary approach that combines genetics, cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, and biophysics. Key methodologies in his work include in vitro biochemical assays, single molecule imaging, single particle tracking in live cells, super-resolution imaging, and high-throughput sequencing techniques such as ChIP-seq and Hi-C.
