Biography

Madineh Sedigh-Sarvestani is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurobiology and Behavior at Cornell University. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Engineering from Harvey Mudd College and a PhD in Engineering Science & Mechanics from Penn State University. Her doctoral research focused on statistical computational modeling of brain rhythms involved in epilepsy. Following her PhD, she transitioned to visual neuroscience, working with prominent scientists such as Diego Contreras and Larry Palmer at the University of Pennsylvania, and David Fitzpatrick at the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience. Dr. Sedigh-Sarvestani's research employs various animal models to explore the architecture and function of the brain's sensory systems in relation to behavioral demands. Her primary objective is to understand how visual circuits process and transform sensory information from the retina, considering the unique movements of different animal species, including humans. Through techniques such as in vivo two-photon imaging, electrophysiology, and behavioral monitoring, her lab aims to elucidate the structural and functional aspects of visual circuits while adapting to natural behaviors. Recently, she has been recognized as a Freeman Hrabowski Scholar by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, highlighting her contributions to the field.
