Biography

Magali Dam-Mazzi was born and raised in Peru and has traveled extensively, experiencing firsthand the challenges inherent in the resettlement process. This personal history informs her work with the Canadian Centre for Diversity, providing her with a unique perspective that allows her to offer students a greater appreciation for cultural diversity through the Spanish language. At Dalhousie University, she teaches second-year Spanish (SPAN 1020) and courses on Hispanic Identities in Film, while also actively participating in the development of courses. Additionally, she coordinates the study abroad program in Cusco, Peru. Magali is a board member of Kuska, a Canada-Peru NGO, serves as the President of the Latispánica Cultural Association in Halifax, and is involved with the Association of Hispanists of the Atlantic Provinces. Her research interests include the study of cultural identities within welcoming communities, Latin American cinema, and literature, as well as sports. She has contributed to the field through her publications, notably a book co-authored in 2022 titled 'Voces de la pandemia: Stories written during the COVID-19 pandemic by the Hispanic Community in Atlantic Canada.'
