Dr. Magali Toscan

Biography

Magali Toscan is an Assistant Professor in Modern Languages at the University of Warwick. She specializes in French literature with a focus on 18th-century literature from a comparative perspective. Magali studied French literature at the University of Aix-Marseille, where she earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, and completed a PGCE at the University of Warwick. Her Master’s thesis examined narrative structures and philosophical debates in the works of Sterne and Diderot, linking the fields of narratology and translation studies. Magali has taught in secondary education for three years before joining the Language Centre at Warwick. She is responsible for various modules including LL113 French 1, LL236 French 3, LL209 French 5, LL250 French 5 Global Engagement, LL297 French 6, and LL307 French 7 Contemporary France. Magali also coordinates the Long Life Learning programme in French and has worked on several projects aimed at enhancing students' language skills and intercultural awareness, involving telecollaboration with Université Clermont-Auvergne and the development of a Beginners Business French course as part of the Monash Warwick Alliance. Her pedagogical interests include employability and transferable skills, task-based teaching and learning, and language assessment design.
