Biography

Maganizo Kruger Nyasulu is a complex systems scientist whose research focuses on developing methods to assess nature-related financial risks, creating bankable markets for nature, financing nature recovery, and innovating nature-positive financial instruments. Joining the Oxford Sustainable Finance Group at the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment, Maganizo gained valuable experience working with prominent public institutions like the United Nations, as well as leading private sector organizations in finance, food systems, leadership strategy, and global health. He has co-founded startups and holds a PhD in Sustainability Sciences from Stockholm University, where he was affiliated with the Stockholm Resilience Centre, and has further affiliations with the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research in Germany and the Geological Survey in the USA. His doctoral research concentrated on modeling future sustainable agricultural water resource management to support the Earth's biosphere while promoting societal and economic prosperity, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He also has a background in Economics from the University of Malawi and an MSc in Sustainable Development, specializing in Systems Dynamics from Uppsala University, Sweden.
