Professor Dr. Magdalena Tyzlik Carver

Biography

Magdalena Tyzlik-Carver is an Associate Professor at Aarhus University, co-director of the Centre for Critical Data Studies, and a member of the Digital Aesthetics Research Centre. Her research focuses on curating data, critical data practices, network images, and alternative data futures. She engages with posthuman theory and new materialism, examining how digital transformations influence knowledge-making practices through AI technologies and data infrastructures. In her current projects, she develops participatory methods that address issues related to Big Tech extractivism and promotes open data principles. Tyzlik-Carver has curated several exhibitions, including 'Fermenting Data' and 'Ghost Factory', and contributed to numerous publications discussing digital art, critical data studies, and visual cultures. Her work has been pivotal in shaping the discourse around digital aesthetics and civic engagement with data cultures.
