Dr. Magnus Cinthio

Biography

Magnus Cinthio is a Professor at Lund University in the Department of Biomedical Engineering. His research primarily focuses on diagnostic ultrasound photoacoustics, collaborating with clinical partners to address significant clinical challenges. Over the past 20 years, he has established a foundation in studying longitudinal intramural arterial wall motion, a topic he is currently investigating further, particularly in relation to vascular diseases. Cinthio works with various collaborators on projects aimed at distinguishing stable arterial plaques from those at risk of rupture, which is a common cause of heart attacks and strokes. He has also co-founded Lund University’s photoacoustic center to develop methods for clinical applications in this promising field. Cinthio's work encompasses expertise in medical imaging, cancer oncology, cardiology, and gastroenterology, contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals aimed at improving global health. He continually seeks to develop new techniques utilizing ultrasound to enhance diagnostic accuracy, especially in conditions such as Hirschsprung’s disease. His contributions have been recognized through various collaborative projects and publications.
