Biography

From August 2018 to June 2021, Magnus Egerstedt served as the Steve W. Chaddick School Chair at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He became the dean of the Henry Samueli School of Engineering at the University of California, Irvine on July 19, 2021, while continuing his adjunct faculty appointment at Georgia Tech. Between 2016 and 2018, Dr. Egerstedt was the executive director of the Institute for Robotics and Intelligent Machines and held the Julian T. Hightower Chair in Systems and Controls at the School of ECE. Additionally, he has secondary appointments at the Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering, the School of Interactive Computing, and the Guggenheim School of Aerospace Engineering. Dr. Egerstedt holds an M.S. degree in Engineering Physics and a Ph.D. degree in Applied Mathematics from KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden, as well as a B.A. degree in Philosophy from Stockholm University. He completed his postdoctoral studies at Harvard University. His research focuses on control theory and robotics, particularly in control coordination of complex networks, multi-robot systems, mobile sensor networks, and cyber-physical systems.
