Dr. Magnus Fiskesjö

Biography

Magnus Fiskesjö is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology at Cornell University. He has an extensive academic background with a Bachelor’s degree from Lund University and a joint PhD from the University of Chicago in Anthropology and East Asian Languages & Civilizations. His research interests include ethnography, historical anthropology, and archaeology, with a particular focus on East and Southeast Asia. He has published several significant works on historical narratives and cultural heritage, exploring topics such as political anthropology, material culture, and the impacts of colonialism. Fiskesjö has also contributed to various academic programs and initiatives including the Southeast Asia Program (SEAP) and the East Asia Program (EAP) at Cornell. His interest in archaeology and anthropology extends to modernity and the politics of historical memory in relation to conflicts and cultural interactions. He is dedicated to teaching and fostering a greater understanding of anthropology in its diverse forms through both scholarly activities and public outreach.
