Biography

Magnus Lundberg is a Professor of Church Mission Studies, specializing in Mission History, at Uppsala University. His research primarily focuses on Colonial Spanish America from the sixteenth to the early nineteenth centuries. In recent years, he has dedicated his work to the study of contemporary Catholic traditionalism and independent Catholicism. His interests include mission history within the context of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, particularly concerning Catholic missions in Dutch colonies in South America and the Caribbean. Lundberg has an extensive academic background, having earned his Doctorate in Theology, Missiology, and Ecumenics from Lund University in 2002, alongside a Licentiate in the same fields in 2000, a Bachelor of Theology in 1997, and a Bachelor of Philosophy in 1996. He has held various academic positions, progressing from Assistant Professor in Mission Studies to his current role as a Professor since January 2020. His work has involved research funded by both the Bank Sweden Tercentenary Foundation and the Swedish Research Council.
