Biography

Satya’s multi-decade research career has focused on challenges related to performance, scalability, availability, and trust in information systems as they reach cloud, mobile, edge, and the Internet. Throughout his work, he has pioneered significant advances in distributed systems, mobile computing, pervasive computing, and the Internet of Things (IoT). His seminal 2009 publication, "VM-based Cloudlets for Mobile Computing," led to extensive research and the emergence of Edge Computing, also known as Fog Computing. He is a Group Professor in the Computer Science Department at Carnegie Mellon University. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University and holds both Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. In recognition of his contributions, he is a Fellow of both the ACM and IEEE.
