Biography

Mahasin Mujahid is the Lillian E.I. Dudley J. Aldous Chair at the School of Public Health and Chair of the Epidemiology Division at the University of California, Berkeley. Her research focuses on the influence of neighborhood environments on cardiovascular health and health disparities. She utilizes data from U.S.-based cardiovascular cohorts to enhance the measurement of specific neighborhood features and employs advanced statistical methodologies to assess causal relationships between neighborhood environments and health outcomes. Dr. Mujahid investigates multi-level determinants of clustering cardiovascular risk factors among racial and ethnic minorities and the long-term health consequences of these clusters. She has published widely on topics such as social epidemiology and population health, and studies how systemic issues, like redlining and structural racism, perpetuate health inequities in communities of color. Her research aims not only to elucidate these relationships but also to inform policies that can mitigate disparities in health outcomes. As a dedicated educator, she also teaches courses in epidemiology to graduate students.
