Mahdi Farnaghi is an Assistant Professor at the University of Twente in the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC), specializing in Geo-Information Processing. He holds a Ph.D. degree and has extensive research experience in artificial intelligence (AI) applications in geodata processing, commonly referred to as GeoAI. His work focuses on leveraging semantic web technologies to automate geodata processing workflows and has expanded to spatial data science and big data processing using machine learning (ML) techniques for applications in environmental monitoring, disaster management, and spatial epidemiology. Additionally, he employs deep learning (DL) methods to extract insights from large volumes of spatial data related to environmental phenomena. His current research interests include the integration of new technologies such as blockchain within the geospatial domain for enhanced security and accountability, as well as exploring advancements in large language models (LLM), multimodal LLMs, MLOps for the automation of geoprocessing workflows, eXplainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI), and the modeling of spatial and spatiotemporal effects using ML and DL techniques.
