Biography

Mahdi Hasani joined the Cornell Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering faculty in July 2024. He previously worked at UCLA as a Project Scientist and Faculty Innovation Fellow, focusing on developing polymeric biomaterials for immunoengineering and regenerative medicine. His research resulted in 12 U.S. patents that were licensed. Dr. Hasani has served as a guest lecturer at UCLA and co-founded several biotech and biopharma startups. His academic journey took him from UCLA to Georgia Tech, where he earned a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on Bioengineering. His doctoral research centered on developing new microfluidics techniques for the precise fabrication of cancer therapeutic nanoparticles. He holds B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Polymer Engineering and Bioengineering, gaining expertise in the design of next-generation polymer electrolyte fuel cells, dental biomaterials, and cancer vaccines. His current research interests focus on designing biologically inspired immunomodulatory biomaterials, including advanced drug delivery systems for cancer therapy, infectious diseases, and tissue regeneration. His group also explores innovative engineering platforms aimed at rejuvenating the immune system.
