Biography

Mahdis Bisheban has held the position of Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at the University of Calgary since July 2021. She directs the Intelligent and Dynamics Control Lab at the University. Bisheban is an active Technical Committee Member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Vertical and Short Takeoff and Landing Aircraft Systems (V/STOL) group and a member of the Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering (CSME) Mechatronics, Robotics, and Controls committee. Furthermore, she is involved with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), particularly IEEE Women in Engineering, IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society, and IEEE Control Systems Society. Her prior experience includes working as a Research Associate at the Aerospace Research Center, National Research Council Canada (NRC), and as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Queen's University. Bisheban's research interests encompass Control and Modelling of Dynamical Systems, including Aircraft and Uncrewed Aerial and Underwater Vehicles, employing methods such as traditional, data-driven (machine learning), and geometric techniques on manifolds. She also focuses on Predictive Maintenance and Anomaly Detection in Manufacturing.
