Dr. Mahfuza Farooque

Biography

Mahfuza Farooque is an Associate Teaching Professor in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Pennsylvania State University. She is the Director of the Master of Engineering Degree Program and has extensive experience in computer science education. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Premier University in 2006, followed by a Master of Science in Computer Science from the Technical University of Madrid in 2009, and a second Master of Science in Computational Logic from the Technical University of Dresden in 2010. Her Ph.D. in Computer Science was completed at École Polytechnique in 2013. Farooque’s research interests include innovative teaching methods in computer science, particularly focusing on microlearning and enhancing student engagement through technology. She has published numerous papers, including contributions to IEEE conferences, and authored a book on Discrete Mathematics for Computer Science. Farooque has received several awards for her research and contributions to engineering education, including the Woody Bledsoe Award in 2013 and multiple travel grants. She actively participates in academic leadership and student organizations at Penn State, advocating for diversity and inclusion in computing education.
